When you look at weight management programmes in the Netherlands, you come across two options: standard branded products and compounded preparations. But what's actually the difference?
Branded products
Branded products are manufactured by large pharmaceutical companies in factories. They come in standard dosages and are sold worldwide. Think of the difference between an off-the-rack suit and a tailored suit — the off-the-rack suit fits reasonably, but not perfectly.

Quality and safety
A common question: is the quality of a compounded preparation comparable to a branded product?
The answer: the active ingredients are identical. The difference lies in the production method. Branded products are mass-produced in factories. Compounded preparations are individually made in pharmacies. Both are subject to strict quality standards.
Every compounding pharmacy in the Netherlands is inspected by the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) and operates according to guidelines from the KNMP (Royal Dutch Pharmacists Association).
Which choice is right for you?
If you need a standard dosage and have no price sensitivity, branded products are a fine choice.
