GPhC-compliant weight-loss patient flow

Magistra handles the consultation. You handle the dispensing.

Effective 13 January 2026, the GPhC requires a two-way consultation and independent BMI verification for every weight-loss prescription. Building that infrastructure is expensive. Magistra has built it. We refer matched patients to your pharmacy with a fully-compliant prescription and clinical record. You stay in your core competency.

What this looks like for your pharmacy

GPhC compliance, handled

Two-way consultation, independent BMI verification, structured clinical records, eating-disorder screening, ongoing follow-up — all conducted on Magistra and audit-ready for inspection.

No platform to build

No video tool, no BMI-verification flow, no clinical record system, no follow-up scheduling to commission. Your existing PMR / dispensing system is all you need.

Real per-prescription revenue

Founding partners receive a referral payment (typically £5-15) for each prescription Magistra refers to your pharmacy. No platform fee in the founding cohort.

Ongoing patient relationship

Once the patient is matched and prescribed, you become their pharmacy. Refills, additional services, broader pharmacy products — that relationship is yours.

How the patient flow works

  1. 1

    Patient finds Magistra

Through our /economics hub (currently the most comprehensive evidence-based GLP-1 economics resource on the internet), our predictor tool, organic search, doctor referral — or directly from your pharmacy's website if we set up a co-branded entry point for you.

  2. 2

Patient is matched with a verified specialist

Our matching engine pairs the patient with a verified specialist physician licensed in their country. We verify medical registration, conduct identity checks, and hold the clinical relationship.

  3. 3

    GPhC-compliant consultation

Video consultation with the matched specialist. Live BMI verification (scales visible on camera or partner-clinic measurement). Eating-disorder screening, contraindication review, dose plan. Full record stored on Magistra.

  4. 4

    Prescription routed to your pharmacy

If the patient nominates your pharmacy, the prescription is sent to you via the Electronic Prescription Service (where supported) or secure NHS-compliant transmission. You dispense as normal.

  5. 5

    Ongoing follow-up

Magistra holds the clinical follow-up relationship — dose escalations, side-effect management, ongoing review. You hold the dispensing relationship for refills.

What Magistra provides on the consultation side

Specifically the elements the GPhC inspection framework requires.

  • Two-way video consultation with a verified specialist clinician (15-30 min typical)
  • Live BMI verification — patient demonstrates measurement on camera, or measurement at a Magistra partner clinic
  • Structured consultation record covering medical history, current medications, weight history, contraindications, eating-disorder screening, mental-health red flags
  • Dose-escalation protocol with clinician sign-off at each step (4mg semaglutide, 5mg tirzepatide, etc.)
  • Ongoing follow-up scheduling: 4-week check-in, 12-week review, longitudinal monitoring of side effects and weight loss trajectory
  • GDPR Article 26 joint-controller documentation, ICO registration, NHS DCB0129/DCB0160-aligned clinical safety case

Frequently asked questions

What does the GPhC framework require for weight-loss prescribing?+

Effective 13 January 2026, the GPhC inspection framework requires UK pharmacies supplying weight-loss medicines (Wegovy, Mounjaro, other GLP-1 jabs) to conduct a two-way consultation rather than relying on a patient questionnaire alone. The consultation can be a video appointment with a qualified clinician, an in-person appointment, or via direct access to the patient's GP record / Summary Care Record (with consent). The pharmacy must also independently verify the patient's height, weight, and BMI rather than accepting self-report. Pharmacies will fail their GPhC inspection if these requirements are not met.

What does the Magistra partnership include?+

We provide the consultation layer end-to-end: video consultation with a verified specialist physician (booked, conducted, recorded), independent BMI verification (live measurement during the video or partner-clinic measurement), structured consultation records (eating-disorder screening, mental-health red flags, contraindications), dose-escalation protocol with clinician sign-off at each step, and ongoing follow-up. We send the prescription back to your pharmacy for dispensing. You retain the patient relationship for dispensing, refills, and pharmacy services.

What is the commercial arrangement?+

Three tiers. Founding (first 25 partners signed by 2026-06-30): £0 platform fee + £10 per Rx referral, includes the partnership agreement, joint-controller GDPR documentation, and a logo-only listing on Magistra's pharmacy directory. Standard: £99/month + £8 per Rx referral, listed on the directory. Premium: £299/month + £5 per Rx referral, includes a co-branded landing page, embedded video-booking widget on your own site, and prioritised patient routing in your geography. Founding is the right tier for most independents; Premium is for clinics with their own marketing reach. Final commercial terms sit on a one-page partnership agreement with a 30-day termination clause.

How does the patient experience flow work?+

Patient finds Magistra (organic search, our /economics hub, doctor referral, or your pharmacy's referral). Patient completes our matching form and is matched with a verified specialist. Specialist conducts the GPhC-compliant consultation (video, BMI verification, history, contraindications). If appropriate, prescription is issued and routed to the patient's chosen pharmacy — your pharmacy if you are a partner. You dispense and provide pharmacy services. Magistra retains responsibility for clinical follow-up; you retain pharmacy responsibility.

What is the engineering / IT requirement on our side?+

None beyond your existing PMR / dispensing system. The consultation, BMI verification, and clinical records all happen on Magistra. We can deliver prescriptions to you via the Electronic Prescription Service where supported, or via a secure NHS-compliant transmission method (NHS.net, encrypted email, fax for legacy). If you eventually want a more integrated experience — a co-branded landing page, embedded video booking widget, real-time prescription handoff API — that is available as a paid add-on, but it is not required to participate.

What about patient data and GDPR?+

Magistra is the data controller for the consultation, clinical records, and ongoing patient communications. Your pharmacy is the data controller for the dispensing record. We sign a joint-controller agreement (Article 26 GDPR) covering the prescription transmission. The patient signs explicit consent for prescription transmission to their chosen pharmacy. All data flows are documented in the agreement we provide. We hold an ICO registration and the Magistra clinical platform is built to NHS DCB0129 / DCB0160 expectations.

What happens if the GPhC framework changes?+

Our compliance is our responsibility. If GPhC tightens further (increased BMI verification frequency, in-person verification thresholds, mental-health-screening protocols), we update our consultation flow at our cost. You receive a written summary of any change that affects your dispensing workflow. The whole point of the partnership is that the regulatory burden sits with the platform, not the dispensing pharmacy.
